The Weight of Want

Love, so gentle, soft, and free,
Thrives in trust, in harmony.
Yet grasp too tight, demand too much,
And love recoils from such a touch.

The heart once open, warm, and bright,
Fades in the shadows of control’s might.
For love’s not chains nor debt to pay,
It wilts when forced to stay that way.

A whispered wish, a tender glance,
Not rules, nor force, nor circumstance.
Yet when we plead and claim as right,
Love turns away and dims its light.

Desire can burn, yet not demand,
For love won’t bow to one’s command.
It must be given, pure and true,
Not weighed by what it owes to you.

To cage the wind, to own the sea,
Is just as vain as love’s decree.
It slips away like grains of sand,
Unyielding to a grasping hand.

Let love be light, let love be kind,
Unchained, unfettered, unconfined.
For only then, in boundless flight,
Love blooms in joy and endless light.
