I heard the line ‘Another Time, Another Place, Another Us’ in the show White Collar, and it struck a chord with me. I didn’t—and still don’t—think anything could be more devastatingly beautiful.

Another Time, Another Place, Another Us

We met as whispers in the wind,
laughter woven soft and thin.
A bond unspoken, yet so clear,
a gravity that pulled us near.

Not quite lovers, more than friends,
a story neither dared to bend.
We danced on lines we wouldn’t cross,
knowing well what we would lose, not what we’d lost.

Some loves are storms, wild and bright,
but ours was quiet—steady light.
A fire that warmed, but never burned,
a lesson learned, a page we turned.

You were the pause between my breaths,
the echo in words left unsaid.
We meant something, we always will,
a space in time no fate could fill.

The lines blurred, yet hearts stayed wise,
no reckless fall, no sweet disguise.
We knew the cost, we knew the end,
so we stayed what we had—just two dear friends.

The world had plans we couldn’t break,
too much at stake, too much to take.
So we let the silence hold our truth,
pressed beneath the weight of youth.

But if the years should turn us back,
should fate erase the things we lack,
would we still stand so close, so near,
or let the echoes disappear?

Still, in the hush between the stars,
your name hums soft inside my scars.
Not a wound, nor regret, nor pain,
just love that knew it must remain.

So here’s to us—what almost was,
what never broke, what never blurred.
We raise a glass, we make no fuss,
to another time, another place, another us.
